What is Internet Telephony, IP- telephony or VoIP service? Why is it widely used as an integral part of virtual office?

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) or IP-telephony is a technology that enables the transmission of voice over a packet-switched protocol IP through Internet and other IP - networks (for example, digital channels). Special analog VoIP- gateways are used to communicate on the Internet (IP - network) with PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), which are referred to global circuit-switched networks.

It should be noted that Internet is linked with digital telephone networks ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) via digital VoIP gateway. In addition, the integration of VoIP in a cellular network is almost an inevitable process, the integration will provide lower compared with traditional cell phone call costs. Currently, you can access the Internet directly from cell phones that support the technology: CSD (Circuit Switched Data or GSM Data), GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for Global Evolution), CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access ), EV-DO (Evolution-Data Optimized), which provide a wide range of services of mobile Internet and WAP. It should be noted that mobile telephone connection has introduced new technology for wireless broadband Internet-based communications technology 4G (GSM / WiMAX / Wi-Fi mobile phone).

Currently, cellular network switching centers are connected to PSTN and ISDN networks services connected (cellular networks of different operators are interconnected) that provides a possibility of cellular phone calls to landlines (PSTN or ISDN) and vice versa. Characteristic of 3G mobile communication is speed wireless data transmission and powerful backbone packet networks. Due to the fact that PSTN is connected to Internet networks, cellular networks may provide transmission of voice signals between the networks.

The voice signal from the VoIP channel can come directly on IP-phone connected to the network or IP- routed to the mobile phone of the mobile operator , or an analog phone connected to the public telephone network PSTN, or to a digital telephone that is connected to a digital network integration services ISDN. Thus, IP-telephony transmits voice signals from PC to PC, PC-to- phone (analog phone, digital phone, IP-phone, mobile phone) and from phone to phone. Calls are made through a service provider VoIP. Voice quality depends on the VoIP-provider and type of connection to the Internet. Today VoIP is used for virtual office solutions as it makes possible to receive calls from any place of the world. It gives an opportunity to save on costs related to office rentals and stuff salary as virtual office solutions integrate the functions of company secretary.

One of the advantages of IP-telephony is saving funds for the conduction of international and long-distance telephone calls due to the fact that a considerable part of the distance between callers voice signal in digital format (compressed) passes over packet switched networks (over the Internet) and not switches to telephone network channels. Currently, IP-telephony provides the cheapest or free long distance and international calls, all you have to do is pay for the used traffic. These technological achievements also help to minimize office rentals costs.
